American White Pelicans, Anahim Lake, BC

We stayed at the rustic Anahim Lake Resort for a few days in early September, and every morning a flock of pelicans flew in from their nesting areas at nearby Nimpo Lake to feed in the shallow waters of Anahim Lake. The young are nearly the size of the adults by now, only distinguished by the gray feathers on their heads and backs. Soon they will fly south to overwinter in California or Mexico.
